Across Australia, water is a precious, scarce and costly commodity so you would understand the concern City of Burnside  had with the amount of water leakage of the children’s wading pool at Tusmore Park.

The City of Burnside said an inspection of the pool had revealed it had leaked a considerable amount of water each day

When Poly-Tech Industrial Services came to inspect the pool, the concrete substrate was pitted and cracked and the existing coating has failed which can lead to algae imbedding itself into pores and crevices where it can harbour and foster bacterial growth.

Poly-Tech was engaged by City of Burnside to rectify the problems of water leakage, drummy concrete, and to improve the general aesthetics of the pool. Another major requirement was the new system had to be robust as in the winter months as the wading pool is emptied and used by children on push bikes and skateboards.

Firstly the total removal of the previous coating and the grinding of the concrete was in order to ensure 100 percent adhesion of the new system. Remedial repairs were needed to remove drummy concrete, grinding back the reinforcing steel to remove rust, treat with anti-corrosives and make good the render to restore the original facade.

The new covering of fibreglass is structurally strong, has a waterproof barrier, prevents and covers unsightly surface cracks and reduces water loss through leaks. It is quick to install, has an ease of maintenance and coated with a non slip gel coat that resists algae growth.

Aesthetically the Tusmore Park wading pool has been instantly improved. The all important environmental issues of water leakage solved, and the health and safety of the children assured.
