Vinyl Flake
Substrate
Terrazzo Flooring 200m2
Surface Prep
Dustless diamond grinding, Epoxy Primer followed by a 3mm Epoxy screed
System
Broadcast Vinyl Flake into screed. Top coat with 100% clear epoxy and water based matt urethane.
When the Queen Elizabeth Hospital set out to re do their Operating Theatre floors, there was a great emphasis on limiting the shut down time of the three theatre’s and to have the project completed with no interruptions to the other adjoining theatres. The existing terrazzo flooring had significantly deteriorated over time; the pitting was very unhygienic and it had created difficulty in cleaning and maintenance.
Dustless diamond grinding was considered to be the best preparation and a vinyl chip flooring system was deemed an ideal solution. This satisfied the requirements of:
-
The lifespan of at least 10+ years,
-
Must be hygienic,
-
Able to be coved,
-
Zero-tolerance for residual odours upon completion,
-
Able to withstand wet environments,
The Vinyl Chip Flooring system was chosen because it satisfied all of the clients’ needs. It is also extremely flexible with colours and design. There are no seams to harbour dirt, bacteria or fungus. The finish is long lasting and easily cleaned. The floor can be scrubbed repeatedly without damage to the finish. What used to take the client 20 minutes on hands and knees to scrub clean will now be done in under half the time - only needing a mop and soapy water! The reduction in cleaning is attributed to the zero porosity of Vinyl Chip Flooring Industrial Flooring.
Within hours of completion there were no detectable smells as the products used contained 100% solids, making the theatre ready for handover the next morning.
After its completion, the staff loved the aesthetic qualities of the floor, with requests as to when we could start to replace the rest of the terrazzo! It was a success.
