Install epoxy mortar build, polyurethane coating and tactile indicators
Elder Park, Adelaide's riverbank location for Conventions and Festivals along the famous Torrens is a multi tiered site subject to vast amounts of pedestrian traffic. Servicing these tiers and the public are several ramps and staircases. The governing Adelaide City Council encountered a potentially dangerous problem at a prominent staircase and landing right in front of the Convention Centre. The previously laid rubber tactile indicator sheets had lifted, offering a trip hazard at the stair egress. Additionally, the stairs treads continually pooled with water which also provided a potential slip hazard.
Poly-Tech were engaged via McMahon Services to rectify both issues. Firstly the stair treads received an epoxy build to fall the pooling water off of the stairs. Upon the successful testing of the build up, a coloured polyurethane coating was applied to the client’s selection, providing a neutral and uniform finish suitable for both pedestrian traffic and UV light. The project was completed by Poly-Tech with the supply and installation of aluminium tactiles adhered to the substrate in accordance with AS1428.
All works were completed as per the various requests asked by the client prior and during the project including variations and important cost savings.
